--- db4o RELEASE V4.2: SUPPORT FOR JDK 1.5 ---
Here at db4objects our new year's resolution is to keep providing you with quality software that makes your development life easier and more efficient.
With the release of db4o 4.2 we introduce support for JDK 1.5, a much requested feature. A few examples of JDK 1.5 support in db4o release 4.2:
- You can use generics in any way you like
- Autoboxing will not interfere with the internals of db4o
- New functionality was built into db4o to make enums behave just like in a non-persistent environment; Every enum in memory is associated with its persistent "old ego" when fields are set on objects that are retrieved from the database. With this behaviour identity comparisons between enums ('==') are possible between persistent and transient objects that hold the enums.
- Reduced constructor calls on instantiation of objects; By using an internal feature from sun.reflect.* it was possible to completely omit constructor calls for applications that run on Sun's most recent JDKs (1.4, 1.5). This means that there does not need to be a single special constructor for db4o unless you choose to have your constructors and field initialisation code
called in declarations.
Don't think we've forgotten about our .NET users. We'll have support for all .NET 2.0 features over the next few months.
DOWNLOAD db4o release 4.2 from our Download Center. The db4o Download Center offers Production, Release, and Stable versions of db4o. We continue to provide previous versions of db4o, such as 3.0 as we think there is much valuable test case material available in the releases.
--- db4o DOWNLOADS NOW CLICKING AT 10,000 PER MONTH ---
We had over 10,000 downloads in the month of December with 126 countries getting to know db4o. The U.S., Germany, Poland, Brazil, and Italy led the downloads, but Russia is close behind and we're all pulling for Japan and China to step up.
Takenori Satoh, managing director of TMT Inc. is leading the Japanese charge with his blog at http://d.hatena.ne.jp/db4o/. Since we're so excited about this, we'll be randomly selecting bloggers to receive free db4o t-shirts. Submit your db4o related website or blog to enter into the random giveaway.
--- NEW CUSTOMERS - BOSCH SIGPACK USES db4o TO CONTROL ROBOTS ---
Sigpack, a Bosch Packaging company, is a world leader in flexible packaging solutions and technologies. They are using db4o to control the automation server that manages Delta XR31, a packaging robot. Delta XR31 defines the state of the art in the creation of high-speed and reliable pick & place robotic systems, whether for the foods, cosmetic, pharmaceutical or consumer electronics industry.
db4o is used to run the automation server that coordinates all of the pieces of equipment and enables quick reconfiguration of the packaging line upon production changes. 39,000 objects are in memory at any given time in this extremely complex data model.
db4o was selected because:
- high performance to meet huge number of objects
- ability to store complex object structure easily
- reliability and zero administration
- accelerated time to market through db4o's ease of use and implementation
