"Every language has a killer app, an application that catapults a language to popularity. DB4O is my killer app - it is the tool that draws me to Java."

-- 6.2.501 ADDS COMMITTED CALLBACKS AND PUSHED UPDATES, IMPROVES C# READABILITY --

The development version db4o 6.2 adds committed callbacks and pushed updates.
You can now register a listener for the committed event and use it to keep all clients informed about changes committed by other clients.  One use case is that you can keep objects on all clients in sync with committed changes if you refresh objects from within the listener.  That way you can make sure that the local cache always is updated automatically and you never have to call #refresh() upon retrieval of objects in a query.  More about this feature here.
The free download of development version db4o 6.2.501 is available at the db4o Download Center.

Improving C# readability

As some of you may know, a majority of the C# sources for db4o.net are generated from the Java version.  This is possible because of the similarities of the two platforms, and of the two languages.  To simplify the task we created a converter that takes care of translating the Java sources to plain C# sources.  So far the code we generated was readable by the C# compiler but it was a little harder to read for humans.  Now, with the new and improved converter, we organize the imports for every C# source file.  It provides perfectly valid C# code that is much more readable.  More about this feature in here.

-- 6.1.501 - LATEST ITERATION OF db4o 6.1 STABLE VERSION RELEASED --

The latest build of db4o's stable stream is now available for download.

This build includes a backport of all Hammerfest fixes and an important fix to the CachedIoAdapter.  Please consult the release notes as compiled by our Jira system for a complete view of the changes.

Version 6.1.x is strongly recommended for any ongoing development project and basis for direct 24/7 support as a commercial db4o Developer Network (dDN) member.

-- ANAT GAFNI JOINS db4objects AS VP OF ENGINEERING --

Anat Gafni has joined db4objects as Vice President of Engineering.  Anat brings over 20 years of experience in managing software development and product strategy to db4objects, where she is now responsible for the engineering and support organization.  Prior to joining db4objects she served as VP of Engineering and Alliances at Troika Networks, a startup that established the new area of intelligent storage HBAs and switches, where she was in charge of software development and co-development projects with partners.  She also served as Engineering Manager at VERITAS Software, where she managed various groups, including the Removable Media Management group and the Volume Manager group.  You can read the complete press release here

-- DB4O SHOWING NAV-DEMO WITH NAND DRIVE AT JavaOne --

Come and see db4objects' navigation system demo at the Sun booth at JavaOne 2007.

The demo is based on a system developed in conjunction with a leading Japanese car manufacturer.  Users will be able to set up a simulated environment with streets and obstacles such as trees and lakes to test the Dijkstra search algorithm that can find the shortest route between two points.  This demo highlights the perfect marriage of db4o and NAND drives.

Learn how db4o maximizes database performance and optimizes NAND life by visiting us at the Sun booth at JavaOne Conference in the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA.
