db4objects Appoints Shenzhen Menglongyitong as Representative for Greater China

Leading Open Source Object Database Vendor Steps Up Activities in
Region with db4o's Second Largest Userbase

HONG KONG, Aug. 06, 2006 - db4objects (www.db4o.com), creator of the leading open source object database for Java and .NET, today announced that it has selected Shenzhen Menglongyitong Information Technology Ltd. as its representative for Greater China. The two companies signed a comprehensive collaboration agreement to accelerate the adoption of db4o in the regional market. As part of this agreement, Shenzhen Menglongyitong will provide Chinese support, sales, and marketing services to better meet the demand of local users.

Shenzhen Menglongyitong owns and operates China's most popular open source Java portal, Matrix (www.matrix.org.cn), with more than 120,000 registered developers and 500,000 visitors per month. Companies like BEA, Oracle, and Kingsoft have used Shenzhen Menglongyitong's services to market their products to the fast growing community of Chinese software developers, who embrace open source and object-oriented programming technologies. Matrix has covered db4o in the news since early 2005 and has contributed significantly to the strong user base of db4o in China.

"We are very excited to bring db4o's innovative technology into the hands of many more Chinese software developers," says Shenzhen Menglongyitong's CTO, Chris Lo. "With our strong technical background in object-oriented Java and .NET and our intimacy with the Chinese open source community, we believe that we can add real value to users, who wish to embed db4o into their products. db4o has proven to deliver huge performance and productivity gains over conventional object-relational solutions, such as Hibernate or JDO, and much lower total cost of ownership than roll-your-own solutions, such as object serialization or flat-file persistence. Our goal is to make the large db4o user community in China more visible and to contribute to the success of this native, object-oriented software platform."

China Represents db4o's Second Largest User Community

"After the U.S., China hosts db4o's second largest user community with some 3,000 registered users, followed by Germany and Japan," said Christof Wittig, CEO of db4objects. "This fast adoption has occurred in only 15 months without allocating any dedicated marketing resources to the region (so far). We are sure that with the help of our new, uniquely qualified partner Shenzhen Menglongyitong, we can accelerate this growth tremendously by providing localized technical support, marketing and sales services to the Chinese user community."

"Many people underestimate the extent to which Chinese companies have started to produce smart devices with embedded software," adds Harry Li, the CEO of Shenzhen Menglongyitong. "With leading makers of products like consumer electronics, PDAs, medical devices, and space equipment, China is at the forefront to produce high technology at affordable prices. A key factor to their success is the use of productivity-enhancing components such as db4o, which helps to cut development time and cost, and to bring products to market much faster."

"We are very excited about this new partnership between db4objects and Shenzhen Menglongyitong," says Heaven (Han Wei), CTO of a Guangzhou-based software company. "We're in the early stages of building a mobile phone application in Java with db4o, and we greatly look forward to having a local partner who can help us realize all of the productivity gains we expect from using native, object-oriented technology."

db4objects has contracted staff in China for its core software development since 2005. As part of its commitment to the region, the company plans to hire more locals into the contracted team of core contributors. db4objects already hosts some community-driven resources in Chinese, which can be found on www.db4o.com/china. These resources include translated whitepapers and case studies, a Chinese developer forum, wiki, and a news blog.
