New Paper: Avoiding the ORM Quagmire with db4o
SAN MATEO, Calif., May 22, 2007 - db4objects (www.db4o.com), the creator of the leading open source object database for Java and .NET, today announced that ODBMS.ORG, the Internet's most complete source on object database technology, has released an article by Ted Neward discussing solutions to the problems of Object/Relational-Mapping titled: "Avoiding the Quagmire".
Ted caused quite a stir last year when he released a paper titled "The Vietnam of Computer Science", where he compares the object / relational impedance mismatch with the quagmire in Vietnam.
His new paper, "Avoiding the Quagmire", is a follow on paper which looks at ways to solve the problems highlighted in the initial Vietnam paper and discusses the consequences of using an object oriented database management system (ODBMS) as opposed to a relational database and/or object / relational mappers.
Neward uses db4o as an example where he discusses how to addresses many of the challenges. Although ODBMS are not the solution to all problems, he argues that they provide the developer a better chance of avoiding the quagmire and allowing them to focus more clearly on the problem at hand.
